Every family needs prayer. Some days it is a quiet thank-you for a full table and healthy children. Other days it is a desperate cry over a lost job, a sick parent, or a teenager who will not talk. Whatever your home looks like right now, a sincere prayer for family brings the people you love before the One who loves them even more than you do.
This page is the home of our family prayers. Below you will find original prayers for blessing, protection, provision, peace at home, hard seasons and relatives far away, plus short prayers to say together at meals or bedtime. You will also find simple ideas for starting a family prayer habit, and links to prayers for each person in your household.
“…as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15 (KJV)
A Short Prayer for Family
Heavenly Father, thank You for the family You have given me. Bless every person under this roof and every one of us who lives far away. Keep us safe, keep us kind, and keep us close to You. Let our home be a place where Your love is easy to see. Amen.

Prayers for Family Blessing and Protection
You do not need a crisis to pray for the people you love. Praying on ordinary days is like building a fence before the storm comes.
1. Prayer for God’s Blessing on My Family
Lord God, every good thing in this house came from Your hand. Thank You for each name I carry in my heart today. Bless my family with health in our bodies, wisdom in our choices and joy in our ordinary hours. Where one of us is tired, give rest. Where one of us is unsure, give clear direction. Let Your favor rest on us so that we can bless others. Teach us to notice Your goodness in small things, like a shared meal or a laugh at the end of a long day. Amen.
2. Prayer for Family Protection
Father, You see what I cannot see. I place my family under Your protection today. Watch over us on the roads, at school, at work and at home. Guard our bodies from harm and our minds from fear. Protect my children from people who mean them harm and from things online that would steal their innocence. When we go out, go with us, and when we come home, bring us back safely. I cannot be everywhere at once, Lord, but You can. Amen.

3. Prayer for Provision
Lord, You know every bill on the table and every need we have not said out loud. You feed the birds and clothe the lilies. Please provide what my family needs this month: food, rent, school fees, medicine and steady work. Open doors for honest income and close doors that would lead us into debt or shortcuts. Help us to spend wisely, give generously and stay content. Keep worry from making us short-tempered with each other. Amen.
4. Prayer for a Home of Peace
Prince of Peace, come and live in our home. Quiet the shouting and soften the hard words. Where there is tension, bring patience. Where there is hurt, bring honest apology and real forgiveness. Help us to listen before we answer and to assume the best about each other. Let our children feel safe here, not anxious. When the world outside is loud, let our house be a shelter of calm, laughter and kindness. Amen.
If peace at home feels far away right now, our prayer for family unity has prayers for arguments, divided siblings and broken relationships.
Prayer for Family in Hard Times
Illness, grief, money trouble and distance can strain even the closest home. These prayers are for the seasons when you do not know what else to say.
5. Prayer When Your Family Is Struggling
Lord, this season is heavy. You know what we are facing, even the parts we have not told anyone. Hold my family together when the pressure is pulling us apart. Give us strength for today and hope for tomorrow. Keep us from blaming each other when we are tired and afraid. Send the right people to help us, whether a friend, a pastor or a kind neighbor. When we cannot see a way forward, remind us that You are still with us. Amen.
6. Prayer for a Sick Family Member
Healing God, someone I love is unwell, and the whole family feels it. Please touch their body and bring healing, comfort and rest. Give the doctors and nurses wisdom and skill. Give those of us caring for them patience, energy and gentle words. Calm the fear that wakes us at night. Help the children in our home understand what is happening without being overwhelmed. Keep us close to each other and close to You. Amen.
You can also pray our prayer for healing alongside this one.
7. Prayer for Loved Ones Far Away
Father, my heart is in more than one place. Some of the people I love live in another city or another country, and I cannot hug them today. Watch over them where I cannot. Keep them safe in their travels, healthy in their bodies and strong in their faith. Comfort them when they feel lonely or homesick. Help us stay close through calls and messages. Bring us together again in Your good time. Amen.
Family Prayers to Pray Together
Praying with your family is a gift your children may remember for the rest of their lives. These prayers are short enough for small children to follow.
8. Mealtime Family Prayer
Thank You, God, for this food and for the hands that made it. Thank You for each person sitting at this table. Bless our talk tonight, and help us to listen to each other. Remember those who are hungry today, and show us how to share what we have. Make us grateful, make us kind, and make us one family that loves You and serves You together. Amen.
9. Bedtime Family Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for today. Thank You for the fun parts and for helping us through the hard parts. If we were unkind to anyone, please forgive us and help us say sorry tomorrow. Watch over our family while we sleep. Keep away bad dreams and fill our rooms with Your peace. Bless Grandma and Grandpa, our cousins and everyone we love. Wake us up ready for a new day with You. Amen.

How to Start Praying Together as a Family
Many parents want to pray with their family but feel awkward or do not know where to begin. It does not need to be long or polished.
- Keep it to five minutes. A short prayer time you actually keep is better than a long one you skip. Attach it to something you already do, like dinner or bedtime.
- Let the kids take turns. Give each child a night to lead. A little one can say one sentence (“Thank You, God, for my dog”). An older child can read a prayer from this page.
- Make a prayer jar. Keep a jar and slips of paper on the kitchen table. Anyone can write a name or a need. Each evening, pull out one or two and pray for them. When a prayer is answered, write the date on the back and move it to an “answered” jar.
- Use “thank, sorry, please.” Thank God for something, say sorry for something, ask Him for something. Children pick this up quickly.
- Do not force it. If a teenager does not want to pray out loud, let them listen. A gentle example does more than pressure.
If anyone in your home is unsafe, please contact local emergency services. Prayer and safety go together, and God never asks anyone to stay in harm’s way.
