Some prayers start with a feeling in the stomach: a child driving home late, a loved one travelling, a house that feels uneasy at night, or a fear that is hard to put into words. In those moments, we want to know that someone stronger than us is watching over the people and places we love.
The Bible tells us again and again that God is our refuge, our shield and our fortress. Every prayer for protection in this collection will help you bring your fears to Him, whether you are praying for yourself, your family, your home or someone far away.
Start with the short prayer below if you only have a moment. Then use the longer prayers when you have time to sit with God.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” — Psalm 91:1–2 (KJV)
A Short Prayer for Protection (Quick Prayer)

FAQs About Prayers for Protection
What is the most powerful prayer for protection?
There is no magic formula; the power of prayer comes from God, not from the exact words. Many Christians turn to Psalm 91, the Lord’s Prayer (“deliver us from evil”) and the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel when they need protection. Praying with faith and sincerity matters more than which words you use.
How do I pray for protection of my family?
Name each family member before God and ask Him to protect their body, mind and spirit. Pray Scripture over them, such as Psalm 91 or Psalm 121, and ask for specific protection for where they are going and what they are facing. The family prayers above are a good place to start.
What is a good prayer for protection against evil?
Prayer 14 above, based on the armor of God in Ephesians 6, is a strong prayer against evil and spiritual attack. The Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel is another traditional prayer many people pray daily.
Can I pray for protection for someone else?
Yes. Praying for others, also called intercession, is encouraged throughout the Bible. You can pray for a friend, a child, a spouse or even someone you have never met.
Is there a short prayer for protection I can pray every day?
Yes: “Lord, You are my refuge and my fortress. Cover me and everyone I love with Your protection today. Keep us from harm and deliver us from evil. Amen.” It takes only a few seconds and can be prayed every morning.
Final Prayer
Almighty God,
You are my shelter in the storm, my shield in battle and my safe place at night. I give You every fear I carry for myself and for the people I love. Protect us, guide us and keep us close to You. When I cannot see the danger, You can. When I cannot be there, You are. I rest in Your care today and always.
In Jesus’ name, Amen. 🙏
